Linux?
Starting using Red Hat Linux in 1997 or 1998 with Red Hat 5.3. Between 1997 and 2000 I stuck with Red Hat, buying each boxed set and but also tried Debian, Mandrake, & SuSe. I got annoyed with Red Hat when some Menu changes I was making were removed at every reboot that I decided to try another distribution. I settled on Debian because of it's commitment to being free and that it wasn't under the control of any corporation.
Debian & Ubuntu
I purchased install CD's from Lord Sutch and I ain't looked back. Since 2000 I've been dist-upgrading from one version to another. ;) At the moment I run a mix of Debian unstable/testing on my PC, a self-build AMD 3200+ system with a 939 motherboard. and Ubuntu Feisty Beta on my Laptop, a Dell 700m.
Where?
I'm originally from Donegal, Ireland, and now live in Boston, MA, US.
Work
I work as a Software Engineer in a cube farm, these days I mainly work with Java code & frameworks. But a few years ago I was the only Linuxer in my dept around the time when Gartner and other analysts started talking about the cost & robustness of Linux versus other Operating Systems. Because of this I was tasked to prove (internally) how stable & robust Linux was, and how well it performed relative to other Operating Systems including AIX, Solaris, & Windows. As you may guess, Linux proved itself and partly because of my work senior management were convinced to accept Linux within the company.
